The Lordship of Christ: Acts 2:36 March 31st 2002

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. Acts 2:36

Introduction: Here is a vital subject often neglected by the believer.

We are not speaking of Lordship salvation but the Lordship of Christ Jesus.

Jesus is the LORD.

1 Cor. 12:3,

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

To ask a sinner to make Jesus "the Lord of your life" is redundant.

Acts 2:36,

Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

& Phil. 2:9-11,

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: [10] That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; [11] And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus is the LORD by an act of God the Father! Jesus is Lord of all.

WE NEED TO SUBMIT TO THAT LORDSHIP!!!

His Lordship is manifest in:

  1. Conversion: Romans 10:9, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
  2. Consecration: Psalm 45:11,
  3. So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou him.

    cf. Matthew 8:2,

And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

  4. Conduct: James 4:13-15,
  5. Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: [14] Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. [15] For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.

    God’s will or our will?

  6. Charity: Christian love in action. Our love one to another.
  7. Isaiah 41:6,

They helped every one his neighbour; and every one said to his brother, Be of good courage.

    and John 13:13,

Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

  8. Coming of Christ: 1 Thes. 4:17,
  9. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

In particular our life in light of His coming!

    Luke 12:36,

And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

*ILL. The man who had the plaque "Perhaps Today" on his desk.

  10. Consummation:
  11. John 14:1-4,

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. [2] In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. [4] And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

    cf. Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Are we living for time or eternity?

  12. Condemnation: Rev. 19:11-16

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. [12] His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. [13] And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. [14] And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. [15] And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. [16] And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

with Rev. 20:15,

And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Folks, there are millions on their way to Hell. How is the Lordship of Christ reflected in your life in light of this fact?
