Three Trees December 8, 2002
Intro: What can the Bible say about trees? There are three trees in the Bible which give us man’s past, present and his future.
Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil: This tree tells us of man’s past. It is not a pretty past. Man’s past is sad. God had spoken to Adam about this tree:
Genesis 2:17,
But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Adam and Eve ate the fruit of that tree and a death sentence was passed on to all men. Man has not learned from this mistake. In Genesis three, Satan appealed to Eve out of the tree of knowledge. He deceived her into rejecting God’s Word and accepting Satanic lies instead.
*ILL The devil has not changed. He will always attack the Bible and cause people to question and reject it. God wants man to live forever. Satan lies in order to take you to Hell. If Adam and Eve had obeyed God and stayed away from this tree they would still be alive today.
Some of Satan’s lies are: reincarnation, evolution and religion. All these ideas come from the tree of knowledge and attack the Bible. God has spoken from His Word concerning these ideas and the Bible is against these lies.
As a result of partaking of the tree of knowledge death passed to all men. We have all inherited Adam’s sinful nature. We now are naturally prone to follow evil. It is always easier for us to do wrong and it takes great effort to do right.
Tree of Calvary: This tree tells us of man’s redemption.
"Christ is spoken of as having bought His redeemed, making them His property at the price of His blood".
*ILL Has anyone here been given a fine. I have on the 407. I had to pay the fine. We all have a fine to pay. The fine is death: Romans 6:23,
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The good news is: the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Christ had paid the price on the Cross of Calvary.
1 Peter 2:24,
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
Tree of Life: Tells us of a home in Heaven.
Rev. 22:2-3,
…there [was] the tree of life, …[3] And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
Will you partake of the tree of life in Heaven? You can if you will first come to the tree of the cross. Jesus invites you.
